DON VALLEY RIVER SUPER PARK

The donors express their thoughts with future planning for the parks and recreations in the Don Valley River Park.

Mayor John Tory spoke out to the public at a presser at the Don Valley River. Tory addressed the changes that’ll occur for the park in the near future and allow more accessible features. He plans to extend the park from the Don Valley River to Lake Ontario, creating a so called “Super Park” within the next couple of years. With the help of donors and volunteers such as Tim Price, Chairman of the Ontario Arts Foundation and Kenneth Tanenbaum, vice-chairman of the Kilmer Group, the project is being made possible. They, and many other donors and volunteers attended the presser and Mayor John Tory addressed them during his time speaking.

“I will say that it is the advocacy, the partnership, the civic engagement and the dedication, of the people here that are changing how the city looks at this space and how the city looks at itself,” Mayor John Tory said.

The donors and volunteers have raised over three and a half million dollars in the project out of the five million needed to completely fund it. They’re excited to know that their donations will contribute to a better and greener park. Kenneth Tanenbaum expresses his feelings about the project moving forward.

“I’m excited about the move forward. We’ll see this area more stewarded for all Torontonians to enjoy all year around. We get to see a different and greener Toronto that our city deserves,” Kenneth Tanenbaum said.

The project will commence by adding biking trails, hiking trails, park signs and outdoor art exhibits. These changes to the park are estimated to be completed by 2020 or even later.
